Firstly, the Aston7 is a TRUE 3D Character Generator and not a 2D Character Generator with a 3D plug-in.

One of the most striking differences between the Aston7 and almost any other 'traditional' broadcast Character Generator is the product's total commitment to 3D.  Many broadcasters ask the question "why have 3D when 2D can still look good?" Having complete flexibility in X,Y,Z space doesnt just mean you can have 3D models flying around the screen, it also means that you have infinate 2D layering capabilities. Graphics operators using traditional 2D CGs would always get to a stage while creating graphics where they could not insert and image, clip, roll or crawl because of the 2D restrictions. Total 3D support presents huge opportunities to the graphics designer both creatively and operationaly. Creatively, the designer has control over 3D geometry, animation paths and texture effects such as lighting, reflections and surface textures. All these effects are contolled within the Aston7 software, without the need for changes to be made externaly. Operationaly, having TRUE real-time rendering means there is no more waiting for text or graphic animations to render. Graphics staff can really get on with their jobs now, without the stumbling blocks all too present with 2D CGs.
